Having recently enjoyed a few drinks at a restaurant, one woman then had the experience marred when it came to pay.
After dining out in Washington D.C, she wasn’t impressed by the “disrespectful” description of her left on the receipt.
At the top of the bill, a note said “girl by herself,” which didn’t impress the customer.
She shared the bill online, adding: “T his description is so disrespectful,” alongside a series of crying emojis.
The receipt, printed by a staff member called Shaun, prompted her to add: “Like come on Shaun.”
In the comments, she explained that she had been dining with other people, leaving her confused as to why she was given that description.
The tweet went viral, with more than 600, likes and nearly 50,000 retweets.
One person commented: “So disrespectful,” while another replied: “LMFAO this is so savage.”
Another person agreed, asking: “Yes it is. Why is there such a stigma with going out to eat or going to a movie alone?”
One woman joked: “This is the funniest thing because this really could happen to me.”
Another quipped: “Mine would prob say ‘One girl. Four plates.'”
But one person admitted: “Na this just furthered my anxiety to go out by myself.”
Another disagreed, as they asked: “Why disrespectful? Seems a simple way to help the waiters identify guests they are serving. How else would you like them to describe you – colour of hair, clothes.”
One woman kindly added: “I’m glad you’re comfortable enough to go out by yourself. I hope you had an amazing time.”
One former waitress admitted she’d fallen foul of this, as she admitted: “I used to work in foodservice and I forgot you can see this s***. I accidentally put “bald guy with glasses” on someone’s receipt and they wrote back ‘Hey, I’m not completely bald!'”
